my mom just bought a beauty salon and we just found out that that the guy that rents the space has rented the space right next to my mom's for another beauty salon. is it legal for them to do that?Is it legal to have two beauty salons owned by different people next to each other?

unfortunately yeah its legal. your mom can offer deals or advertise in newspapers, beauty magazines, etc, to get an edge over the lady whos movin in on her territory. after a while she will probably establish herself and if she hires the best employess, the other lady will go down in no time! ;)
Yes, why wouldn't it be legal? It's not like it's a monopoly where your mom bought every salon in the us.
